2005-09-04 - 4:14 p.m. Inspired by a friend's enormous alphabetised and numerically ordered collection of DVDs, I've written out an index for our own collection. The count currently stands at 61, which I think is fairly impressive. About 20 of those are ones I haven't seen, so I shouldn't lack in entertainment for the next few months. I actually find it hard to find time to watch movies. We're always doing other things, and only usually sit down and watch things together for about half an hour or so. And I hate watching movies in installments. When I get together with friends, I want to spend the time talking, rather than watching movies. But now I know that if I ever have two hours with nothing to do, I have a beautifully alphabetised collection of movies to choose from. Another friend sent me a mix CD (I love getting mix CDs - what a picture of someone's mind), and I have discovered Natalie Merchant. Why did I not discover Natalie Merchant earlier? I don't know, but I think it's a fairly terrible oversight on my part. The library has two albums - Tigerlily, and The House Carpenter's Daughter. They both seem to be fairly different projects - any ideas on which to get out first? At the moment, I'm listening to Transatlantic Sessions 2 (Vol. 1 & 2), which is a combination of country, folk, and mad bagpipes. (Mad bagpipes, in my dictionary, are when they're rushing away so fast you can hardly follow the beat.) I'm not a big fan of country music, but folky Irish country, I like very much.
