2005-01-02 - 1:12 p.m. My diary is designed by the lovely Lia. The images are from one of my favourite childhood books, Where the Forest Meets the Sea (Jeannie Baker), which was set right near where I grew up. The text over the picture reads 'I am here, I am here. I am life, eternal life'. I had never succeeded in keeping a paper diary before. I can't write fast enough to keep up with my thoughts, and of course you can't edit something once it's written down. I didn't see the point in typing a diary and saving it on my hard drive. And then I became addicted to writing online. The fact that people find my writing interesting enough to read regularly is an astonishing feeling, and in turn I've met many extraordinary people through their own journals. It's wonderful to be allowed these glimpses into others' lives. I can't imagine ever stopping. I try to write every day that I'm at home, and the feeling of peace and calm that overtakes me after writing is not something I want to lose. Lia can be contacted through her guestbook or email. I adore my design - she intuitively got just what I wanted. It perfectly represents me, and what I write about.
